that knife is a rust machine i know 3 ppl with that knife and it will rust just looking at it .grate knife if your up to date with your tetanus shot lol
@lmglange
i say in the video its 1095 carbon
when the handle scales are epoxyed then you should not worry about water coming in between and cause rust.
All knives get wet …. if you use them.
why buy a knife if you dont know what kind of steel its made of?
I got my Pathfinder in 4 days. I got lucky!
@4770589 And unless you want to just make a vid titled “hey guys look at my new knife” or ” look at what I waste my time doing”, get a knife take it out and put it through a shit load of trials. I have literally spent a couple thousand easy on knives of all shapes and sizes. I purposefully try to break them, because if they wont handle a little playing around, then I would never want to stake my life on using it in the woods. I do not however spend 100′s of dollars any one knife.
@4770589 an heirloom knife or even a knife from a great battle or war is a collectible showcase knife. Dave says he designed this blade to handle anything and BHK swears that it was designed using some of the best material and it is supposedly “bomb proof”. If you didnt spend $300 on it, then you didnt buy it. Dave is a great teacher, but you seem star struck just by saying his name. And the reason I care is because I only have one allergy, stupidity. When I see it, it makes me sick.
@Caveman0713
I have 2 knives in my collection that I don’t use my 1944 USN MK2 ka-bar, and my pathfinder knife. And I actually do use my pathfinder knife I just don’t use it hard, or that much. And I did not spend $300 on it. I do not idolize Dave Canterbury, I look up to him. He is a great teacher and I admire that. And its my knife so what do you care? And of course I seem over protective of the knife I just got it the night before, after waiting several months!
And unless you are strictly a collector and in no way are a true outdoor man, when purchasing a knife it should be one that if it becomes lost, is easily replaceable. $300 not easily replaceable. And it shows in your vid that you apparently idolize Dave Canterbury and it in no way reflects positively on your knowledge of the knife usage, nor good knife purchases. Not that the PF isnt a good knife, just a bit too pricey for any knife, custom or not. Good vid other than the overprotective parts.
You bought a $300 knife, with a kydex sheath that is designed to firmly hold it in place, yet you dont trust the sheath to keep the knife from falling 2-3 ft, how in the world could you trust it in a real life survival situation? Secondly you prefer the leather sheath, exposing only 1″ so that heavy brush doesnt damage the handle. Any knife worth that price, should be practically indestructible. Also if you’re so worried about scuffs on the blade or handle why pay that kind of price?
@ratbertovich
Ya you are right, its not 1/4” when they designed it, it was going to be a 1/4” but I guess they changed that with the other small changes. my bad.
That blade on the BHK is nowhere near 1/4″! Looks like 3/16″ or less. Beautiful knife, no matter what, though.
@4770589 thank god, i had visions of you accidentaly ruining that beautiful pathfinder, i think its a bit steep for me, and its a hella long wait. I prefer a proper custom, a one off, like my jaat, or my jlt
@assassin616
The puck is designed for axes and machete’s, there is no way in hell I would even let the two touch!!!
dont use the puck with the knife, ull ruin the scandi edge
@calld2serve
This knife is better at striking the fire steels, then the strikers that come with them! I have a video if me using it, its amazing!
the grooves work very well for using on a fire rod
@jackgreybear
I would have paid twice what I paid for this knife! The reason for that is, it was designed by Dave Canterbury, and made by people that really put a lot of attention into their product! Now I also love KA-BARs Becker line of knives as well, but a full production knife is just not as special to me as a knife designed by a person I really look up to. I am a collector not just a user.
Hi. I would also be afraid to use this knife if I had paid 3 times what a good high carbon steel knife usually costs. Think Kabar, Becker. or any other high carbon steel blade knife that costs about a third of what this knife costs. Hope you are happy with your knife, and don’t lose it.
Nice review, I got excited with You, Dave has come out with a beautiful knife.
I understand your apprehension to use such a special blade, But use it like any other fine tool, and take care of it, It well serve You for a lifetime.
Great Review…. Well Done.
the SL2 is a laminated carbon steel blade…and it rocks!!!!!!
allright thanks
I love the handle, but its designed to be a bush craft knife so its very smooth. Not something you want to use when your hands are wet, covered in blood and guts, or just slippery. I could use that knife all day and not have one soar spot.
the pathfinder knife
Hey Caveman,go back to your cave.
You judging numbnuts who thinks he know it all.
You’re probably jealous that you’re not the star being admired.
You negative dumbass.
